Hormone therapy in many women with purpose to improve the quality of life such as trying to get pregnant or reduce the effects of menopause. But new research suggests that hormone therapy can increase female mortality due to breast cancer. The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association is the first reported deaths from breast cancer among women who take hormone replacement therapy.

Dr. Chlebowski explained these findings also included follow-up of 11 years of study from the Women’s Health Initiative in 2002 found that female users of estrogen plus progesterone for five years had higher rates of ovarian cancer, breast cancer, stroke and other health problems. The experts from Keele University to identify eight of these symptoms after doing a search of 25 studies in the UK, U.S., Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, Denmark and Germany. Search results are published in the British Journal of General Practice (BJGP).

There are several factors that influence, but the most important are age and gender. Iron deficiency anemia for example, in women aged 21 years does not necessarily indicate the presence of cancer. But for men aged 60 and above, these symptoms are likely to accompany cancer of the colon.

Unless there are other causes known, here are the following symptoms that is a marker of cancer revealed in study.

  • Bleeding in the anus (indicate colon cancer in the elderly)
  • Iron deficiency anemia (indicating bowel cancer)
  • Breast lumps (indicating possible breast cancer)
  • Rectal examination showing the presence of cancer (implying the possibility of prostate cancer)
  • The presence of blood in the urine (indicating the cancer in the urinary tract)
  • Coughing blood out (indicating the possibility of lung cancer)
  • Post-menopausal bleeding (implying the possibility of uterine cancer)
  • Difficulty swallowing (suggests oesophageal cancer)

The findings are expected to help physicians and patients to identify the cancer as early as possible. The faster the cancer is detected, the greater the hope to be able to overcome them before they become more severe.
